So You've Got Your License - NOW What?

How It All Started...

I remember it like it was yesterday. Between getting acclimatized to our new home in a new country, being a wife, a homemaker and a homeschooling mom to our 3 beautiful babies - I had my hands full. But when my crazy entrepreneurial spirit got presented with the opportunity of supplementing our very modest family income - slightly above minimum wage to be exact - and helping other immigrant families doing it, I knew it was for me!

My husband was working so hard to support our family while re-taking his electrician exams to get his Canadian-approved red seal, and I was passionate about supporting him to the best of my abilities. But would I really be able to start this new real estate career on the side, and would I still have enough time to be a wife and a mom ... which were my #1 priorities?

When a dream is born inside of you, and it is keeping you awake at night because you keep bouncing between the inexplainable thrill of the possibilities and the fear of failure, it's hard go back.

"A mind, once stretched by a new idea, can never return to its original dimensions."

~Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.

Now let me tell you, it's easy to dream. In fact, the dream is free! But once you start taking the steps that lead towards the dream, you begin to realize the actual value of the price tag that is attached to your dream. After all, they say that if you want to have something you have never had, you must do something you have never done, right?

I remember studying until the wee hours in the morning, determined to not only learn the overwhelming amount of new English vocabulary, but to also comprehend all the case studies in a language that was not my second or third, but my fourth. By the time I would finally hit the covers, it was almost time to get up again and make breakfast for my Sweets. It was hard.  And then the big day arrived and I finally got the greatly anticipated letter in the mail. Congratulations! But ... now what?

I knew what I wanted, but how do you get it?

How do you actually convince people to list their home with you when you have no experience whatsoever?  And how do you ever get experience unless someone gives you a chance? It's almost like a catch 22, isn't it?

Nobody out there is looking for an inexperienced Rookie to sell what is probably their largest asset. And the very thought of that intimidates and paralyzes a large majority of new REALTORS® all over North America. And let's just say that an intimidated and a paralyzed mind is not a confident mind which makes winning pretty much impossible.

So here's the formula: Confidence = (Preparation + Practice) Focused Intensity

Once you actually know what to do, how to do it, and in what order to do it - it's really not that hard. And the good news is that you're in the driver's seat and you determine how fast you can go!

"Mastery Takes AS Long As You Want It To Take." ~Tony Robbins

The mistake that I see most new agents make, is to look around and trying to copy a little bit of everything. They do a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and end up with a whole lot of expenses and nothing to show for, wondering why nobody's calling ...  having their third credit card maxed out, and hoping to "sell something soon."

So ...  long story short, how do you Prepare and Practice ... and what's Focused Intensity anyways? I'm glad you asked.
